A Boston, Massachusetts-based financial advisor, Gerard “Gerry” Dougherty has written a book, Uncomplicated Money, as well as a number of articles published by kiplinger.com. A financial advisor since 1986, Gerard Dougherty has focused his expertise on helping retirees with their financial planning needs.

Mr. Dougherty started out as financial advisor and then moved into management, eventually getting hired in executive management in 1994. He remained in this role until the Great Recession, when he was inspired to launch his firm Boston Independence Group, Inc, a financial planning firm designed to help Massachusetts retirees. He realized the gap in financial services after many clients reported losing a significant part of their assets after the recession.

Today, he continues to help this population with finding strategies to protect their assets. His philosophy is to get his clients to understand the importance of protecting wealth as opposed to building it the closer they get to retirement.

In addition to his writing, Gerry Dougherty hosts Making Money Last, a radio program for which he was awarded the “10 Years of Excellence Award” from the station WCRN.
